Europe Trip Breakdown: London

Europe Trip Breakdown: London

jessie.m.helton

To say that I’m excited to go to Europe this summer is the understatement of the year! I wrote a post a few months back about our general plans for Europe you can read here, but I wanted to get into some more details for anyone trying to plan their own trip. Our first stop of this 2 week adventure will be none other than London! I have never been to Europe before, but Aubrey has and got to visit London on his first trip across the pond. Here are a few of the details we have mapped out for our time in London!

Timeframe

Two weeks sounds like a long time for a vacation, and it is, until you start planning Europe. We are going to fly from Little Rock to London, which includes a full 24 hour layover due to time zones. So, we’ll leave on a Friday afternoon, and make it to London on Saturday morning. We plan to be in London for what will end up being about 3.5 days, Saturday-Tuesday. Hopefully that’s enough time to soak up everything we want to before we move on to our next stop!

Hotel

We did a bunch of research on hotels for this trip, and London is packed full of amazing options. No matter what your budget is, there is a hotel that will fit what you’re looking for! Anytime I start doing research on a places to stay, I go straight to Google and Pinterest. I always look through a handful of articles and reviews to see where I can find consistencies, and then pair down options from there.

We ended up deciding on the Kimpton Fitzroy London for our stay. It is located in the heart of central London with easy access to all of the things we want to see and do. The building itself is historic and absolutely beautiful, and looks like it is going to be a great place to start off our trip.

If you want to take a look at some photos of the hotel and surrounding around, check out the hotel’s website here!

Activities

In our time spent in Iceland last year, one thing we realized is that together we really enjoy the city versus the country. So, when looking at all there is to do in London I get more and more excited every day! I’m not embarrassed to say that I plan on doing a lot of the “touristy” things while on this European trip. Aubrey and I have a running list of all of the historic and iconic places we want to visit while in London. We also have a list of restaurants and bars we hope to get to try while bouncing around the city.

A couple of stops on our touristy list include visiting the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, the London Bridge, the Shard, and Buckingham Palace. I’m also a HUGE Harry Potter fan, so I hope to get to squeeze in as much super fan stuff as Aubrey will allow while we’re there.

One of the biggest activities I look the most forward to on this trip, and kind of what we built the entire trip around, is the Formula 1 race at Silverstone. Aubrey is the major F1 fan of the two of us, but I have gotten into it a lot more recently. I have never been to a F1 race in person, and getting to attend my first one in Europe is going to be a blast!

Food & Drink

This part of the trip is something we don’t have really micromanaged down to a particular list. There are a couple of really cool rooftop bars and some street food we definitely want to try while we’re in London. But, I think most of the fun while traveling comes from some spontaneity! We will probably end up loving and talking about forever one or two of the small cafes or restaurants we stumble into while on this trip more than anything we have mapped out. I’ll share all the details on our favorite food and drink places when we get back from the trip. For now, I am so looking forward to seeing where we end up and what we end up loving!

Final Thoughts

Travel is one of those things I love so much it gives me goosebumps. I get excited for a trip super early on, and just ride that wave until it’s time to leave! We are so fortunate to get to plan an adventure like this for the upcoming summer, and I can’t wait to share all of our favorites afterwards!

If you’ve ever been to London and have any suggestions on things we should do or try, please leave them down below in the comments!
