In case you didn’t know, Free People has their own workout line, FP Movement! I was first introduced to the brand through it being carried in the Neighborhood Barre studios. I waited until I heard a ton of rave reviews from both clients and instructors before trying some of the pieces myself. I’m here to tell you, as soon as I started wearing their stuff I couldn’t stop buying more! Leggings, tops, bras, you name it! It is super cute, great for low impact workouts, and I constantly get compliments on my outfit when I’m wearing it. Below are some of my top favorite picks from the brand.
The Good Karma Legging
I might as start out with the #1 staple piece that I love from this brand. This legging is AMAZING! I have them in multiple colors, have bought them as gifts for friends, and would recommend them to anyone asking. They fit different body types all super well, including different heights. These are very stretchy, and can look intimidatingly small at first glance when on the hanger. But, I promise, they stretch and are super comfy once they’re on! They are a full length legging, but might be a little more like a 7/8 length on someone who is taller. I’m 5’3″ for reference, and they come all the way down to my ankle. Sizing for the Good Karma line is strange because it runs XS/S, M/L, etc. I wear XS/S in anything Good Karma, so if that sizing scares you I would encourage you to try on all sizes to find what you’re most comfortable with!
Good Karma Running Shorts
Just so you know, anything Good Karma from the FP Movement line is my absolute favorite. The material is soft, supportive, and compressive so you really can’t miss! These shorts are very similar to Nike Pro spandex shorts, except they’re high waisted. Same great material, excellent fit, and they don’t ride up too bad. I would potentially encourage you to size up in these if you’re wanting a little more length. However, my regular size of XS/S fit me great! I love these for barre, cycling, running errand, traveling, and HIIT workouts.
Good Karma Crop Bra Top
Sticking with the Good Karma pieces, I really enjoy wearing this Good Karma Crop Bra Top. I have it in 3 different colors, and get compliments all the time when wearing it! Now, I will say, this top is not for a HIIT style or CrossFit workout. It is compressive and supportive, but designed better for workouts like barre, yoga, or cycling. The crisscross back is super cute, and it hits me right above the belly button. I have a fairly long torso, so it could come down further or sit higher depending on how you’re built. With it being low cut, it might not be ideal for large chested women. But, I would still encourage you to try it on regardless because of how comfortable the material is!
Free Throw Crop Bra Top
This top is another favorite of mine because it provides more coverage, and is still supportive enough for the low impact workouts that I enjoy. This is one of the very first Free People Movement tops I purchased because of how functional and easy it is to pair. There are a ton of color options, and the coverage is good for a lot of different bust sizes. This top is also super comfy to travel in under a jacket or sweatshirt, and then works on it’s own as a top if you get warm!
Crop Scoop High Neck Run Tank
This top is a great alternate to the first two if you are a bigger busted girl that wants to try out the brand. The high neck is perfect for coverage, and the material is ribbed and structured to keep you feeling supported. The length of this top is on the shorter side, so I feel the most comfortable wearing it with something high waisted. I would say this top could support you through some higher impact workouts because of the compressive material, but is still great for barre and yoga. Again, there is a great color range on this one from basic neutrals to bright and bold neons!
SPECIAL MENTION: The Way Home Shorts
Fully transparency, I do not actually own a pair of these shorts. But, that’s not because I haven’t tried! We run out of them so quick at the barre studios, and even my local Dillard’s is out of stock! However, I hear clients talk about how great they are and see girls wearing them everywhere now. I have stopped and asked multiple people their thoughts, asked clients and instructors that do have them, and they all sing their praises! They do have built in underwear and are made of a “swishy” material. Think Nike shorts, but a little more of a loud material. I would say these are more for running, HIIT, CrossFit style workouts than barre or yoga. But, without having them myself I can’t say for certain which activities I would prefer them for the most.
Price and Final Thoughts
You can check out the Free People Movement website here to look through all of the athleisure options. In my opinion, I would encourage anyone to start with the Good Karma leggings, and then continue to try pieces from there! The great thing about the FP Movement line is that it is priced very reasonably. Different from Free People’s main clothing line where a sweater can run over $200, most of the staple items from this athleisure brand are under $60. If you’re local to Knoxville and want to try on, you can always visit a Neighborhood Barre studio! The line is also carried in department stores like Dillard’s, so if you have one nearby you could try on there too.
