On a recent trip to Tulsa, I noticed a workout studio I have never seen before called Row House. After leaving my Orange Theory workout, the first thing I did was look it up. Since I’ve never seen the studio before, I knew I wanted to take advantage of the chance to try it if I could! Check out my very first experience at a Rowhouse studio!
What Is Row House?
My very first question was “What is Row House?”. To try to make it simple, this is a boutique fitness workout that is centered around rowing. Think Cyclebar, but with rowing machines! This studio uses the Concept 2 rower, which is what I’m used to from CrossFit and totally different from the water rower in Orange Theory. At Row House, they have a couple of different types of classes that incorporate more or less strength training along with rowing.
You can check out their website description of their workout here!
The First Time Experience
I am an early riser and went to the 5:30 am class for my first time at Row House. This is a dedicated Strength class, which means we did 50% of the workout on the rower and the second 50% on the weight floor. I got there a few minutes early as instructed and spent some time with the instructor before class. He was very helpful in setting up the rower and explaining how class would go. Not much later, we all strapped into the rowers and got started!
The Workout
The workout itself is awesome! If you’ve ever taken a Cyclebar class, this is very similar just with rowers! We did our warm up for about 5-6 minutes on the rower. Then, we moved into some low impact strength movements on the floor utilizing resistance bands. These movements included lunges, squats, and core exercises. We finished class with about 15 minutes on the rower working through different sprint and power patterns. I really enjoyed bouncing between the rower and strength exercises, and ended up burning around 260 calories throughout the 45 minute class!
Pricing and Final Thoughts
Row House does something I absolutely LOVE which is offering your first class for free! This way you have the opportunity to try a class before making a decision on whether you like it enough to pay for it. Their packages are set up very similar to most boutique fitness studios. They have an unlimited package for around $159 per month, or you can do 4 or 8 classes per month for $79 or $129 respectively. They also have class pack options for different prices as a more flexible option, These prices are all pretty close to Orange Theory pricing and typical for most boutique workouts.
If you’ve been a rower in the past or enjoy fun cardio, this is definitely a workout you will enjoy! If cardio isn’t really your thing, then I think a class like this is an awesome way to check that box while having fun. I would encourage you to check and see if there is a Row House in your area and give them a try!
